Abstract

Despite the wealth of research on screening for and prevention of pre-eclampsia (PE) published in the last three decades, this condition remains one of the main causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, both in low- and high-income countries. It affects 2–8% of all pregnancies, being responsible for one out of five maternal deaths and 15% of all preterm deliveries.
