Abstract
We hear a great deal about Islam today but we know relatively little about how it has integrated itself into the societies and cultures of 1.7 billion people on six continents, including Australia. We tend to think of Islam and Muslims in monolithic terms and fail to appreciate the diversity in terms of its manifestations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Western world.
