Abstract

In response to Marko Vujicic’s excellent guest editorial in the March issue of JADA (“Our Dental Care System Is Stuck: And Here Is What to Do About It”), we wish to draw readers’ attention to a similar analysis of dentistry globally. Just about a year earlier, in March 2017, a group of us met in Colombia to reflect on the situation in that country and to consider that situation in the context of the state of dentistry worldwide. La Cascada Declaration and the associated background articles were published subsequent to a workshop and symposium held in Medellin. The symposium convened dental educators across Colombia and drew some representatives from neighboring Latin American countries.1, 2 A few months later, another editorial was published.3
