Abstract
Research into the relationship between employees’ professional and family lives began in the late 1970s and gained momentum following the seminal work of Greenhaus and Beutell (1985). This marked a shift from an exclusive focus on individual work domains to acknowledging the importance of family roles. The relationship between work and family has evolved from being seen as conflicting (i.e., work–family conflict) to being viewed as complementary (i.e., work– family enhancement), with increasing attention placed on attitudes towards the effective combination of work and family roles (i.e., work–family balance).
