The idea of "conspiracy" is not new in Argentine culture. However, what is particularly interesting is to see how the Argentine media exaggeratedly appeal to this notion in the new millennium, and articulate it with a range of (para)literary genres (i.e., feuilleton and thriller) to explain a variety of issues of national concern. This paper argues that this particular discourse developed by the media is concerned with demonstrating both the disappearance of certain "traditional values" and the danger of social dissolution and disintegration entailed therein. Exemplifying with articles from Clar� La Naci㮠y P᧩na 12 written over the last months of 2002 concerning corruption in the Argentine Senate, this paper describes (1) the characteristics of this mass-mediatized operation, (2) the construction of Argentina's political representation in the press, and (3) its effects in society.
