Abstract

Professor Dr. Cordian Beyer was born in 1960 in Germany. He is currently the director of the Institute of Neuroanatomy at the UKA, RWTH Aachen University, Germany, since 2005. Before, his scientific stations were the University of Ulm, Germany, where he studied Biology and the Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, University of Ulm, Germany, where he obtained in 1991 his PhD and in 1996 his habilitation for Anatomy and Cell Biology and became lecturer. From 1992-1994, he spent an interim research period in the lab of Dr. John Hutchison at the Babraham Institute, MRC Cambridge, UK, funded by the British Royal Society, and received an associated fellow position at the St. John´s College, Cambridge, UK. In 1998, he became the associated professor and from 2004-2005, he was an academic director at the Institute of Anatomy, at the EberhardKarls University in Tuebingen, Germany. Intermittently, he spent several short-term fellowships sponsored by the DAAD, Germany, and the EU in Krakow at the Academy of Sciences, Poland, at the InstitutoCajal, Madrid, Spain, and the University of Milano, Italy. He organized several international and national meetings and symposia (IBRO meeting, Glia conferences etc.). His projects were funded by the EU, DFG, DAAD,national foundations and several industrial companies. He received several awards among them the MerckleForschungspreis 2001, the price of the Society of Steroid Biochemistry in 2002, and the RWTH Teaching Award in 2007. He is a member of the Editorial board of several peer-review journals such as the Annals of Anatomy and Current Neuropharmacology, and published several special issues in the Journal of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. To this day, he published more than 190 peer reviewed articles with more than 3500 citations.
