Abstract
This paper investigates the intersection of digital media usage and commensality, a concept from the social sciences defined as eating with other people, in the context of tourism and hospitality research. From the findings of a systematic literature review (97 articles), three areas of research emerged as topics rapidly gaining scholarly attention in recent years: Digitally-mediated 'commensality', digitally-procured commensality, and digitally-accompanied commensality. Each of these areas are briefly discussed, current state and future opportunities for research also outlined.
