Abstract

Oh et al. (1) recently proposed unifying the 2 algorithms currently recommended in the 2016 American Society of Echocardiography/European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (ASE/EACVI) guidelines for the assessment of diastolic dysfunction (DD) and left ventricular filling pressures (LVFPs) into 1 algorithm that could be applied for all patients undergoing echocardiography (1,2). Our group previously published data providing prognostic and hemodynamic validation for the ASE/EACVI algorithms and the E/é ratio following a first myocardial infarction (MI) (3,4). We re-analyzed our data to determine if significant DD (grade 2/3) assessed using the combined algorithm had a robust correlation with clinical outcomes and invasively measured LVFP.
