Abstract
This original work by Brisbane based composer Paul Dean is written for solo Cello accompanied by a woodwind quintet comprised of Clarinet, Horn, Oboe, Bassoon and Flute. My role was to perform the horn part of this work after collaborating with the composer throughout the compositional process. Identifying the unique colour palette and harmonic qualities of the horn part was central to my role as a co-researcher throughout the process. There are currently no works written for this combination of instruments and as such it represents a major contribution to the solo cello repertoire. This work has been recorded for CD release and received a world premiere by QCGU ensemble in residence “Ensemble Q” in September of 2020. The video has been disseminated internationally via YouTube.
