Edwards and Skinner provide us with a new theoretical framework toanalyze sport in the global context. Drawing on Hardt and Negri'sconcept of Empire (2000) they provide us with insight into a newform of the globalisation process and its modern manifestation in the form of Sport Empire. Particular attention is given to the role of Nation-States and theUnited Nations. The various forms of biopoliticalcontrol that exist in Sport Empire are illustratedthrough a focus on the IOC and FIFA. Issues suchas Corruption in Sport, Transnational MediaConglomerates, Genetic Engineering andBiotechnology, Multiculturalism and DiversityManagement, Humanitarian projects, Environmental and Health Challenges, Terrorism, and the role of the Multitude inproducing a new global posthegemonicsport order are raised.
