Abstract

This chapter outlines the processes involved in the screening of natural product (NP) extracts for biological activity. The topics covered include biological diversity, the collection of biota samples, the preparation of NP extracts for screening, high-throughput screening, biochemical assays and technology, the isolation and structure determination of bioactive NPs (hits) and lead-like and drug-like molecules, and converting leads into drugs.
