Abstract
The health and welfare of Australia’s culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) population is extremely poor. Rates of chronic disease among people from CALD backgrounds are much greater than that of the total population and their use of health services is extremely low. To address the lack of access to services among multi-cultural communities, Associate Professor Saras Henderson and Professor Elizabeth Kendall developed the Community Navigator Model in collaboration with the CEOs of MultiLink Community Services Inc., Access Services Inc., the Multicultural Coordinator of Logan-Beaudesert, and Queensland Health.
