Abstract
We begin this introduction by describing our collaborative process with one another as editors and the chapter authors with whom we worked. Next, we contextualize our book in the global community in which our book is situated discussing three key global challenges of our time: publicness, the superdiverse learner, and the narrowing of literacy and the literacy curriculum. Then, we share a brief history of-and definition for-opportunities for learning (OfL) thereby beginning an argument (further developed throughout this volume) for why OfL may serve as a framework for pondering, critiquing, and acting on the global challenges we provocate in this introduction.
