Abstract

Access to safe and secure housing is a basic human right and need, and the associated social inclusion is now broadly recognized as an integral element to ensuring a sustainable built environment. Through having a stable home, people are better able to engage with family, education, employment, health services and with their local and broader community. Many governments provide social housing to ensure such access to those on very low and low incomes, through publicly funded and provided public housing, or in partnership with the Not-For-Profit (NFP) sector, in the form of community housing. Such partnerships are also used to ensure housing is available at affordable rents to those on low to moderate incomes.
