Abstract

Two key issues impeding the current robot soccer system are the complicated vision analysis process and the unreliable and easily disrupted RF-based communication system. These issues became more critical since FIRA adopted a larger league, the 11-a-side game, which involves more robots and a larger soccer ground. This paper integrates UWB technology with the current Robot Soccer system in order to simplify and enhance the perception and communication tasks. The advantages of UWB will be investigated and based on these, a new model, the UWB-based Robot Soccer system, will be presented. The paper will propose a number of points to be considered in the application of the new system.
