Abstract
Desert Field of Dreams is a major essay (over 8000 words) commissioned by the Griffith REVIEW for their Cities on the Edge edition. The essay explores labour conditions in the middle east with particular focus on the fastest growing city in the world Dubai. The essay examines the negative and in this case often criminal affects of accelerated growth on social and cultural conditions and urban environments and questions the sustainability of unregulated development activity. The essay details human rights abuses occuring in the Al Qouz labour camp in Dubai and the levels of government and corporate complicty which accompany it.
