Abstract
In this collective statement signed onto by all the authors in the volume, scholarship is of necessity transmuted into affirmative statements and a roadmap for training the next generation of theatre artists, makers, facilitators, teachers, activist and scholars to best engage the climate crisis. Authors argue for the need for youth-led cultural production, the importance of community engagement and the significance of solidarity with the global anti-colonial efforts and movements that seek the indigenization of teaching and learning spaces. Emphasis is place on honouring the distinct nature disciplines and sub-disciplines within theatre education and training, as well as acknowledging the range of stressors on students and their identified positionalities. Scepticism of “green” economic growth is voiced, and various strands of eco-literacy and critical posthumanism are put forward as conceptual apparatus for better engaging the other-than-human world in theatre training. Authors conclude that they do not imagine themselves nor their students to come through unchanged by this process, but are aiming for global transformation.
