Abstract

The main points of our submission are:  The cybersecurity challenges associated with operational technology should not be ignored (Question 1);  Australia should leverage existing international agreements with regional neighbours to develop cybersecurity (Question 3);  Australia should further enhance its national position on how it considers international law to apply in the cyber context (Question 5);  Australia should continue to participate in developing international standards (Question 5);  Australia should not approach cybersecurity challenges from a purely STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) perspective (Question 11);  Australia should develop its cybersecurity workforce (Question 11); and  Australia should consider the cybersecurity challenges associated with emerging technologies, such as automated driving systems; and those associated with social media platforms, and promote security by design (Question 19).
