Introduction The federal government’s push (Commonwealth of Australia 2015) to move the retirement age to 70 will impact on the dreams and realities of many Baby Boomers intending to “retire young” and bask in the sunshine of hard earned equity: whether by doing the grey nomad gig or by moving into a lifestyle housing estate (gerotopia) or both. Whatever the dream, the essential criteria are to remain happy, healthy and active. A new housing market is emerging in Australia, targeted at the good life for life after 50: Active Adult (age segregated) Lifestyle Communities (AALCs). While widespread in the United States, these gerotopias have their problems. This chapter asks: Is it OK to ghettoize aging populations in Australia?
