Abstract
Brisbane's experiment with large-scale local government is often extolled as the superior model for sub-national public administration. This article weighs the Brisbane model's advantages against disadvantages including complexity, community disempowerment and potential for systemic dysfunction. Devolution and a return to the Westminster system may counter these problems.
