Abstract

The latter half of 2020, like the previous six months, was dominated by a COVID-19 context that inevitably framed an October state election around the twin themes of pandemic management and economic recovery. Despite heavy criticism from conservatives over her tough border policy, Labor Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk maintained a significant public approval lead over Liberal-National Party (LNP) leader Deb Frecklington. At the 31 October election, an increased Labor majority suggested voters, despite deteriorating economic conditions, remained grateful to a Palaszczuk Government overseeing an exceedingly low COVID-19 infection rate.
