Abstract

This study challenges traditional approaches to corporate social responsibility (CSR) relative to workers with an intellectual disability (WWID) employed in Australian organisations. The researchers examine how organisational support, beyond CSR, contributes to future work aspirations and/or career calling, for WWID. We use a theoretical framework of social capital and elements of trust, connectedness and reciprocity. This qualitative study takes a case study approach to examine management perspectives and the work experiences of WWID in three hotels, a film company, and a courier service in Australia. The study found that when WWID are employed in supportive and inclusive workplaces they can find and articulate their career calling.
