Abstract

Project relevance: The proposed sand embankment will generate additional loads on the soft and wet alluvial clay. It is thus essential to know how the applied loads will distribute in the soil mass and whether the soil will have sufficient strength to withstand it. This chapter will introduce the Mohr circle concept which is used to estimate stresses acting on a soil element.
