Abstract

The Western Downs Regional Council has recruited Griffith University to have a fresh look at Thomas Jack Park in Dalby in order to ● reinforce the community identity of the park ● improve its quality, both in terms of equipment and appearance ● increase tourism visits and stay with a new ‘wow’ factor, that will also appeal to the local community The first report gave a detailed background to the project context, including a structured triangulated analysis and the results of the community survey that yielded 548 answers. The first report also proposed three design alternatives for the redevelopment of Thomas Jack Park and councillors were then invited to provide feedback regarding their preference. Overall, one option stood out as a favorite but with recommendations to incorporate some elements from the two other proposals. This proposed Master Plan is the result of the merging process and the further detailing of some specific areas. The document will provide Council with strategic direction on the following: ● how Thomas Jack Park can develop and redevelop into the future to provide maximum benefits to the local community and visitors ● identification of key design elements for enhancing identity and engagement
