Abstract
Children hospitalized for acute or chronic medical conditions require advanced care. These children's need for expert nursing are met by the paediatric nurse, who in addition to advanced care has knowledge of children's development and needs as well as the practice of family-centred care (FCC). A nurse who practises FCC will include the child's family to be involved in the decision-making and take an active role in the care of their child (Wettergren et al., 2016; Christian, 2017). However, including families in their child's care can also create complex situations and challenges (Steinmiller and Ely, 2015).
