Abstract

Parks and preserves are central to global conservation efforts, but their establishment and management has undergone significant transformation since their introduction in the late nineteenth century. Management approaches are now more inclusive, taking into account the position of these protected areas in the wider socio-environmental landscape, but also the contributions of a variety of interested parties to ensure the delivery of sustainable conservation and development outcomes.
