Abstract

The Mindful Parenting program is an eight-week training course for parents, which applies the principles of mindfulness in the context of parenting stress. The course is designed for parents who are experiencing stress, due to the demands of parenting, which is having an adverse effect on their parenting and relationship with their child. The Mindful Parenting program aims to reduce the stress associated with parenting, by training parents in mindfulness and self-care practices. The content of the Mindful Parenting program focuses on core themes that relate mindfulness to parenting. These themes are developed progressively over the eight-week course, and explored through experiential practice, discussion, and demonstrations. The Mindful Parenting program has been implemented in unique ways across services in the United Kingdom. The Mindful Parenting Community Project has implemented the Mindful Parenting program with adoptive and foster parents.
