Abstract
Wastewater (WW) management is now a significant concern in developing nations due to the detrimental effects of direct and indirect WW pollution on human health and biodiversity. New techniques for treating WW are being explored, including the use of microalgae. Microalgae have unique qualities, including fast growth rates and the ability to thrive in aqueous mediums such as WW. Additionally, algal biomass can be used to produce a diverse range of products, such as food, feed, and renewable biofuels. This chapter delves into the research on algal bioremediation, its commercial potential, and the associated benefits and challenges in emerging Asian economies such as Thailand, Vietnam, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, India, and Iran. The potential applications of algal biomass generated from bioremediation and the challenges and prospects for commercialization in Asian emerging markets are also discussed.
